Description: Porters Creek trail is known for wildflowers in the spring.  There will be a variety during the spring.  We will see how many different varietys we can discover on this trip. It is about 4 miles out and back to from the trailhead to the campsite.  There is a waterfall and small cemetery along the way.   

Learning opportunities:

  • Artistic composition
  • Getting adequate depth of field and a good background for a macro subject
  • Isolating the subject from the background using a long lens
  • Field identification of early spring wildflowers

What to bring: any of the following that you wish to use

  • Macro lens if you have one
  • Close-up accessories such as extension rings, screw on close-up lens and teleconverters
  • Medium telephoto lenses
  • Polarizing filter
  • Reflectors and diffusers
  • Tripod

Rain gear for yourself and a rain cover for your camera in case we have rain.


Bring snacks and something to drink.  


Walking required:

The trail has some elevation but is considered easy by hiking standards. You can go at your pace. There is a footlog you will have to cross. You can go to the campground or stop at the waterfall or some other point that you want to turn around.
